I tweeted the above while catching the train home this evening. This oldish guy got on and sat next to two females and struck up a conversation. He was just pulling information out of them without offering too much of his own (although he did give an example of knowing Hindu and that example was "good girl") and was kind of leering at them. At first he just seemed friendly, to me anyway but then he got this seedy leering look on his face as he stared at her behind when she got off the train. He then scooted over and sat next to the other girl and kept going. She said she was nearing her stop, he had already asked where they lived, and he encouraged her to add his number to her mobile (I didn't hear his exact reason why) and she hesitated at first but then did it.
Normally you would think thats enough, promise you will call etc (familiar party story right?) but then he did the smooth trick of saying "now prank me so I will have your number"... he had good 50 years on these two women, had only spoken to them for about 15 minutes and to me this was beyond creepy. She called her brother to say she was nearing the stop and he kept pushing her to hang up so she could ring his mobile, he was very pushy about it even nudging her and winking (gross). Oh but before this happened, another female got on the train and he patted the spare seat next to him and said he saved it especially for her... ick.
Anyway, he was defeated as the girl was chatting to her brother when the train arrived and quickly promised she would call him but he already moved onto the girl next to him but luckily for her someone called her mobile so he just kind of glared. But never fear (for him anyway) there are plenty of more females on the train sitting by themselves so he went and sat next to another girl and started the same process again. Every time a young female would walk past he would completely leer too, it was quite unpleasant.
There were no guards on the train (of course) otherwise I probably would have asked for one of them just to stand near until the end of the line or he got off. Maybe I just watch too many crime shows but it just seemed borderline predator to me, not just a lonely old guy looking for people to chat to. There was young males and some elderly around so why didn't he strike up a conversation with them instead of targeting the young pretty ladies.
I am not a massive fan of Jenna Marbles but she does have a great video on how to have people stop talking to you and I would just love to see someone actually do this.
Have you been creeped on and if so how did you handle it?
